Friday, November 10, 2023 - Update 13 Nov

Mount Pleasant, Tasman Police - Tragedy struck on Friday night as a serious crash unfolded on State Highway 1 at Mount Pleasant, south of Picton. Tasman Police have now provided updated information regarding the incident.

The collision, involving two cars, was reported to authorities around 9 pm, leading to the prompt dispatch of the Serious Crash Unit. The crash site, situated between Wairau Road and Lindens Road, required the closure of SH1 for an in-depth examination of the scene.

A detour via Queen Charlotte Drive was implemented, offering an alternative route for motorists. However, this detour was only suitable for small vehicles, causing significant delays for both regular commuters and truck drivers.

Sadly, one person lost their life in the tragic incident. The road closure remained in effect until the Serious Crash Unit completed their investigation. Subsequently, the road has now been reopened to traffic.

Police are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash, seeking to understand the events leading up to the fatal collision. As the inquiry progresses, authorities emphasize the importance of road safety and adherence to traffic regulations.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to the family and friends affected by this devastating event. In light of this incident, it serves as a poignant reminder for all to exercise caution on the roads. Stay tuned for further updates as more information becomes available. Drive safely.
